Igogo Center

Community Profile

Mwanza is the second largest city in Tanzania, and it sits on the Northwest shore of Lake Victoria. Around the lake, many small fishing communities are currently experiencing up to 20% infection rates of HIV. This, in combination with extreme poverty, has created a difficult environment.

Igogo is a community within Mwanza that is known for extreme poverty and high rates of HIV infection. There are not many employment opportunities in the community, so most community members survive from working in the informal market. Igogo Center is the fourth CARE for AIDS center in Mwanza. The center launched in October of 2020 with a full class of 80 HIV+ clients.

The Igogo Center operates in partnership with Tanzania Assemblies of God (TAG) Sayuni Temple. TAG Sayuni Temple also hosts a Compassion Project, and the lead pastor is firmly committed to serving his community through ministering to the most marginalized people in the area.
